Hello! If someone tells you the digital-sphere is the future of journalism, they're wrong. It's the present. However, with the exponential growth of technology, storytelling on screens of all sizes will continue to be important.
The world of local news is a gold mine for stories rich with passion and emotion. My mission is to search every nook and cranny for leads that will evolve into stories worth crafting, telling and sharing for all to experience. Social media is the perfect platform to carry out that mission. My experiences at the Missouri School of Journalism, KCEN-TV and WCTV not only honed my skills as a reporter, but it also gave me unique opportunities. I interviewed a Vietnam veteran who was a prisoner of war alongside John McCain. I've fact-checked the governor of Missouri and one of the state's U.S. senators. I covered the sexual assault trial of an embattled former Baylor football player, which ended in a not guilty verdict. I delivered minute-by-minute updates for Floridians throughout the coronavirus pandemic as everyday people adjusted to the "new normal" on the fly. Nothing beats real-world experience when it comes to the art of storytelling. |
Trending Segments
One of my many responsibilities as Digital EP at WCTV was fronting a daily on-air segment showcasing the top performing stories on our website. This included local, regional and national content, depending on what popped off for us on social media that day. Not only did I write the scripts for these, but I also created the graphics for the array using Canva. See some of the highlights from my favorite segments below!
IGTV Segment
While I worked for KCEN in Waco, Texas, I helped create the Channel 6 Check-In segment on IGTV. The Check-In was a weekly recap hitting six stories total: two national, two local and two trending on social media. My main role was behind the scenes, selecting stories, writing scripts and editing the video for Instagram. I also filled in as the host multiple times. I left that station in July 2019, and it continued to run the segment through July 2020. It took a team to get a project like that to get off the ground; I definitely couldn't have done it without my co-workers.
